Los Angeles, CA October 23, 2004 -- Making mattresses safer than ever for the home, McRoskey Airflex Mattress Company announces the introduction of product compliant with new California legislation TB 603 (The California Bureau of Home Furnishings and Thermal Insulation Technical Bulletin 603) requiring all mattresses, box springs, futons and foundations manufactured and sold in the state of California to be open flame resistant. Effective Dec. 1, 2004, one month before the California standard takes effect, McRoskey will replace all product in its California showrooms with new fire-resistant mattresses and box springs that meet the legal requirements.

This new standard will make mattresses safer than ever for consumers, as our products will be designed to resist ignition, giving people time to recognize fire danger and escape, states Robin Azevedo, President of McRoskey Airflex Mattress Company, a 105-year-old San Francisco-based manufacturer and retailer. While continuing to build mattresses and box springs with the same high-quality fiber fillingscotton and polyesterwe will introduce barrier materials similar to those used in the clothing of firefighters, which are flame-resistant.

In addition, the new legislation requires the law label on all mattresses and box springs manufactured on or after Jan. 1, 2005 to state that the piece conforms to the open flame resistant requirements of TB 603. Consumers should therefore look for this label and read it to be sure that they are buying a TB 603-compliant product, adds Azevedo.

Furthermore, the Consumer Product Safety Council, a federal regulatory agency, is also advocating the implementation of a national safety standard modeled after TB 603 to reduce the flammability of mattresses. This proposed federal standard, also known as the American Home Fire Safety Act, was introduced into the House of Representatives earlier this year. While this legislation has not yet been enacted, this news nevertheless attests to Californias high requirements for its mattress retailers and manufacturers.

McRoskey is thus extremely pleased to offer customers increased safety, without compromising the luxurious nature and comfort of our high-quality products, comments Azevedo.
